Bail Absconders & Warrants
On lesser charges, police or the court will normally grant bail. Bail can be unconditional or have conditions attached. Some defendants, for a variety of reasons, may then fail to comply with conditions or not go to court when required. In the short term absconding may seem attractive but in the longer term it is more likely to be oppressive, inhibiting and expensive. Unless an absconder is prepared to make a new life for him or herself and has the funds to do so it is likely only to be a matter of time before arrest follows. Any absconder should reflect upon their position and consider the immediate problems of surrender against a lifetime of uncertainty as a fugitive. In almost every case English law has no time limit for prosecution. With an agreed surrender it may be possible, in certain circumstances to persuade a court that bail should be renewed. |
